We must admit that Martha Stewart is generally right. Sure, her seeming perfection makes us feel badly when we can't get her pâte brisée (pie crust to mortals) to work, but at least she challenges us.
Well, she's definitely onto something with one of her guests on this Wednesday's show.
St. Louis Park-native Phillip Guttmann developed his recipe for chocolate-and-toffee-covered matzah while in grad school in New York. He usually brought his signature candy to dinner parties and finally packaged it as Matzel Toff!. His first big break was at Dylan's Candy Bar, a cool candy shop created by Ralph Lauren's daughter.
Now the crunchy, sweet and salty treat caught Martha's attention. The best flavor is the dark chocolate with sea salt. Appropriately enough, it's getting a pre-Passover popularity boost, but it's good enough to be enjoyed year-round (like chocolate-covered pretzels, but a thousand times better).
Tomorrow, we'll be eating a corner piece while watching Phillip teach Martha how to make it. It will taste even sweeter because we scooped the domestic diva by a day.
