Come winter, "dressing" becomes "bundling." You start with long underwear, add a tee and cashmere hoodie, then seal yourself into a wool coat, hat, and mittens.

But if that's the only type of layering you are doing this season, you're missing out. We propose adding pearls to the list, specifically the creative reinvented ones from L'Donna.

The line is created by Susan Plunkett of Mendota Heights. She cleverly takes vintage pieces and reinvents them, most frequently incorporating pearls in some way.

She started by taking her mom's jewelry and pulling it apart and remaking it. About five years ago, she got serious about it and started selling it under the L'Donna label combing the names of parents (Lyle and Donna).

The reinvented creations start at $36 for a brooch up to $200 for a necklace.

And so much hotter than any combination of socks, boots, and long johns.

L'Donna jewelry, Rick Rack, 3413 W 44th St., Mpls, 612-746-4160.

Join Susan for a trunk show at Rick Rack on Sat., 1 to 4 p.m. for part of the store's 3rd anniversary events.
