A perfect cupcake is like a song. These days, we're singing "Sweet Dreams Are Made of This" in honor of the Sweets Bakeshop.
Just when we thought we'd tasted every cupcake in the Twin Cities, we're already regulars at this bright spot, a few doors down from Izzy's.
The daily flavors always include very vanilla, triple chocolate and kettle corn, which involves cornmeal in the cake and a tasty little candied kernel on top.
In addition, you'll find a smattering of rotating flavors, including banana (caramel filled!), tiramisu (better than the dessert) and breakfast (with gooey bacon and maple syrup butter cream frosting). Yes, we just said bacon in reference to a cupcake and it's the perfect salty-sweet combination.
There's also a selection of French macarons, the chewy, melt-in-your mouth delights that are as pretty as they are tasty.
Sweets Bakeshop landed in St. Paul, thanks to the work of pastry chef Krista Steinbach (who trained at Culinary Institute of America in California) and artist Ly Lo (who has a BFA in furniture in design). The well educated duo combine great flavors and design savvy.
Start singing with us... "How Sweets It Is."
