If you believe good things happen in threes, we've got the cake for you.

Tres leches.

It means three milk in Spanish and the translation is completely accurate, if an understatement. The butter cake is soaked in three kinds of dairy: evaporated milk, condensed milk and heavy cream.

Here's our top three:

At Masa, a delightful dusting of lime zest plays beautifully with the spongy cake. We recommend doubling down and also ordering the off-menu Tres Leches martini. The concoction is based on vanilla bean-infused tequila and topped with fresh lime zest. No fork required.

Just when you think it can't get much gooier, you have the offering at 112 Eatery. It's dense and thick with rich frosting and topped with a white chocolate decoration -- the richest of the bunch.

A wonderfully sweet, dense and rich version recently offered at Blackbird arrived in a pool of condensed milk and was topped with a dollop of coconut cream, a sprig of mint and a sassy fresh blackberry.(It's not on the current dessert menu, but they say it will return.)
