The authors of the best-selling "One-Yard Wonders" (Rebecca Yaker and Patricia Hoskins) have some new ideas for your scraps. Swing by the launch party (2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Crafty Planet, 2833 Johnson St NE, Mpls) for
"Fabric-by-Fabric One-Yard Wonders," to get a signed copy and see finished samples from all of the projects. Then go home and start making us a parasol.

Hungry? Always! Celebrate the local food scene with the first ever
Charlie Awards (2 p.m., Sunday, Pantages, $35 tickets include the after-party in the IDS). The chef-centric awards were named after the restaurant Charlie's Cafe Exceptionale, which was one of the original fine dining destinations in the Twin Cities. Now if someone can explain how it is we haven't had a local chef on "Top Chef" yet -- call me.
