It seems like we've been spending more time at home lately, which has led us to want to spruce up our decor. However, inspiration for those blank walls has us drawing a blank.
Luckily, we made the fortuitous acquaintance of Aimee Lagos, a Minneapolitan, creatively-inclined mom and wife of soccer star Manny Lagos with her own business -- Hygge & West.Hygge (pronounced "hoog-ah") is Danish for cozy/being content and happy. She and her partner (a childhood friend who now lives in San Francisco) combined the meaningful word with "West" to show their Americaness.
Their focus? Wallpaper. Not your Victorian vines or 1950s retro paper-- but cool, 2009 designs. They work with designer Julia Rothman, whose wares are sold in Urban Outfitters.
The graphic prints will make any room pop. As for our favorite, it's a toss up-- this "Daydream" print (pictured and available in several color combinations), and the silver version of Pieces are rather awesome. Plus, Lagos assures us that anyone (that means you!) can wallpaper their own room without ruining the walls or mismatching seams, making it an easy, inexpensive D-I-Y project. Rolls are made in Brooklyn, printed in Chicago and are $125 for a double --27'' by 30', enough for at least an accent wall.
Still doubtful? Check out the Hygge & West blog Picnics Under the Moon for tips and inspiration.
By the way, they only print 50 rolls of each colorway, meaning you'll have a mighty special room and your walls will be cozy and content in many ways.
