When someone has you over, you always bring some personality to the table. Riverside's innovative Plates With Purpose will help you leave your mark and make a donation to a local cause.

Not only do they serve the normal plate purposes (the whimsical forget-me-not makes a perfect cookie platter or candy dish) or, alternatively, they can be used for decorative purposes (the cartoony elephant would liven up any kitchen), but 15% of all proceeds go to local charities, which match up to each plate.

Riverside, based in Pennsylvania, started the giving trend with charities in their community, and Max's continues it here with Twin Cities' organizations. For example, the forget-me-not corresponds to the Alzheimer's Association and the elephant corresponds to the Autism Society of Minnesota. There are 9 different designs in all.

And each one is made from recycled glass and comes in eco-friendly corrugated cardboard packaging.

So, it's really easy for you to step up to the plate.

Plates With Purpose, $32 each, available at Max's, 3831 Grand Way, St. Louis Park, 952-922-8364.
