Swedish meatballs and Swedish fish are classics, but what can you wash them down with?

Well, the American Swedish Institute has created a new signature cocktail -- Bubbel & Popp. (The name conveniently works in both Swedish and English).

It's a clever blend of vodka, Cointreau, elderflower concentrate, pear juice and fresh lemon juice, with a splash of champagne and garnished with basil, rosemary, and a lemon slice.

The drink will be officially unveiled tonight at Scandimonium, a party that kicks off How Swede It Is. The full weekend of events (so many smorgasbords!) celebrates a major construction and expansion project at the Turnblad Mansion. To get it all done, the museum will close in May and reopen in November.

So make sure you drink in enough culture to satisfy that Swede tooth for a while.

Bubbel and Popp, available at How Swede It Is, American Swedish Institute, 2600 Park Av, Mpls, 612-871-4907. Scandimonium, Scandimonium, tonight, $35 for non-members and $30 for members.
